Cotinus (Smoke Tree)

The unusual smoke-like plumes on this purple "Smoke Tree" give the tree its name. I love everything about our shrub: the colors of its oval leaves (purplish on top, green on bottom) and the beautiful dyes and prints it creates - surprisingly, from green to yellow and sometimes blue, depending on the time of year and the substrate (fabric on which it is printed).
